Everyone who had experienced this section of the coast path had told me that this was the toughest section, they weren't lying!
Trebarwith Strand to Port Isaac has six steep (three of which are stupidly steep) combes to cross and, if you are stupid enough to decide to walk it both ways that becomes twelve and six!
The start at Trebarwith Strand presents the walker with a set of steps that are over 150 in number. I made the top of these breathing very heavily, and was amazed when a jogger passed me when I was ten steps beyond the top. She disappeared over the crest of the hill, but when I crested the hill she was stood looking down into the first combe.
She turned around and ran back down to Trebarwith Strand...I soon understood why!
Having been pre-warned on how strenuous this section was, I slowed my pace considerably from normal and became a sociable person (who many would not recognise) by talking to anyone who passed me.
My conversations led me to discover two women who were walking the coast path to Scotland, two young ladies who were walking from Minehead as far as they could cover in thirty days, a elderly couple who were walking for a week as their holiday and a elderly gentleman who walked a week of the coast path every year as his holiday and had completed the coast path several times in total.
Port Isaac was very busy, I am very tired, so below are the pictures that probably show the testing nature of today better than any words I can conjure up at the moment!
